First, some art:
That’s a pin-up that’ll be in the upcoming, tentatively titled “Zenjeff 4Eva” comic. It’s half reprint, half new, half amazing. I’ll have more about that early next year, as well as a few other one-off releases.
Last weekend was my last comic convention of the year (thanks, Eugene!). I did six this year, which is more than I’ve done in any other year except one (I think it was 2004 when I did seven cons). I probably won’t repeat all of the same shows next year (at least one is the same weekend as my mom’s birthday, and I had to be out of town for that this year, and I don’t intend to repeat that); I’m still working out what exactly things are going to look like in 2017. One lesson that I had to relearn – it’s very difficult to be productive AND be out flogging your books at the same time. So I’m going to be sprinting as hard as I possibly can before whatever next year’s first show ends up being.
Even though this has been a wretched year on a lot of fronts, things are coming to a close, and hopefully 2016 can’t take anything more from us. And I have to say, things have been encouraging on a few fronts. I’ll have some good news about San Gwynn pretty quickly here, and hopefully some more good news down the line. I’ve got the next couple of issues written, and it’s time to start banging out pages again so that I can inch closer to wrapping up the first volume. I’ve got other irons in the fire, too. And it’s been great spending time meeting people and getting to know some of my fellow cartoonists better over the year. Comics is a weird business; you have to spend a ton of time isolated in order to produce any amount of work, and then when the weekend comes, it’s time to be as social and gregarious and pleasant as possible. You have to learn to flip that switch back and forth, and I hope to find a better balance next year.
Anyways, more to come soon. And I just wanted to say hi and thanks to everyone who I met this year, whether we had a short conversation or a really good long one. I hope a few of you stick around for the ride!
