It might not be early in the year, but my convention season is about to start! Come say hi at the second annual Cherry City Comic Con in Salem, OR this weekend! Do I have a new book ready? Hell no! But I’m working on it, and I’ll have some new artwork to show off, and I’m much friendlier than I look, so why not scope out the action?
Here’s my con schedule for the foreseeable future (there are another pair of shows I’m tentative on in November (the same two I did last year, but I shouldn’t put it in writing until it’s official), but that’s months away!)”
4/30 – 5/1 Cherry City Comic Con – Salem, OR
5/14 Lilac City Comic Con – Spokane, WA
6/4 Olympia Comics Festival – Olympia, WA
9/10-11 Rose City Comic Con – Portland, OR
And what’s the deal with San Gwynn #2, anyways? First, take a peek at the cover art:
Oh yeah, that’s sexy as hell. So here’s the deal: I’m working on pages currently. The book’s about half done. I didn’t really start working on it until April, because I kept getting sick, and because I had some printmaking commitments in the winter that had very firm deadlines. I knew that when I finished the first issue (that I wouldn’t be able to get right back to making San Gwynn right away), and figured I might be able to complete a second issue by the time some early 2016 cons started rolling around. But, as I mentioned, I kept getting sick (a pair of killer month-long colds that laid me out), and it simply didn’t happen.
I’m not going to pretend that SG comes out on any kind of a schedule. It doesn’t. Perpetually, the answer to the question of when the next issue will be available is that I’ll get them done as quickly as I reasonably can, and then plus a month to turn around the printing. As you might have guessed, I do all the work myself, and I want to take the time to do it right. It takes me a week to finish each of the covers that I do (printmaking is a “hurry up and wait” art medium). It takes me roughly two months to complete an issue of San Gwynn. By the end of the month, that’ll be two months. It looks like I’ll need one more week after that, which means that I should have copies of SG#2 available at the Olympia Comics Festival in June. I’m aiming to have a third issue done for the Rose City Comic Con in September.
So there you go. More work coming shortly. I wish it was done already so I could share it with everyone, but there’s only a stack of pages and a bottle of ink between that happening.
